Kadence Massey hurled a complete-game shutout as the Keystone Heights High School softball team won for the third time in four games, defeating host Baker County 3-0 on March 9.

Massey gave up six hits and no walks, while striking out six.

The Indians pushed two runs across in the top of the first, which began with leadoff batter Abbie Roach drawing a walk. Roach moved to second on an Amber Wagner sacrifice and scored on a Kiley Channell triple. Channell initially stayed on third when Ashley Nugent was put out on a fly ball to left field, but she’d take off and score when the Wildcats took their focus off of her.

Baker put two runners on with two outs on a pair of singles in the bottom of the first, but Massey got out of the inning with a strikeout.

Keystone scored again in the third, which began with a leadoff double by Roach. Roach advanced to third on a fly ball out by Channell and scored on a single by Nugent.

As in the first, the Wildcats put two on with two outs on a pair of singles in the bottom of the third. This time, the Indians got out of the inning when second baseman Alaina Kinsall snagged a low line drive.

The Indians had the chance to increase their lead in the fourth. Caitlin Frampton, who went 2 for 3, hit a single, followed by a Loralei Booth double. The runners were left stranded on a ground out to end the inning.

Baker led off the bottom of the sixth with a single by Kalin Davis and a double by Haley Marker. Keystone left fielder Ashlyn Brown caught a fly ball hit by Chloe Woods and then fired a throw into the infield to catcher Wagner, who recorded the put out on Davis’ score attempt. Brown then recorded the third out of the inning when she caught another fly ball.

The Wildcats’ Kara Davis reached on an error with two outs in the seventh, but Massey forced Brooklyn Davis to hit a ground ball to shortstop Channell for the final out.

Indians follow up with win over Trinity

Keystone hosted Trinity Christian on March 10, with Channell driving in four runs in an 11-6 win.

Channell hit a two-run single as part of a seven-run second inning, which also included a two-run triple by Roach and RBI singles by Frampton and Kinsall.

Three Indians were perfect at the plate, with Channell going 3 for 3 and Kinsall and Wagner each going 2 for 2. Kinsall and Wagner each had one RBI.

Frampton and Roach each had two RBI.

The Indians (4-4) will be back in action on Tuesday, March 21, when they host Oakleaf at 7 p.m.
