Indians defeat Rams 18-0, move to 5-0 in flag football

Ella Hutchins rushed for three touchdowns in the Keystone Heights High School girls flag football team’s 18-0 win over visiting Interlachen on March 23.

Hutchins gained 140 yards on just five carries as the Indians improved to 5-0.

Kendall Gagnon also contributed to the rushing effort, with 20 yards on one carry. She also completed 1 of 5 passes for 20 yards, while Dezaray Bright completed 1 of 8 passes for 70 yards.

Teilah Hall caught two passes for 40 yards, while Mackenzie Castlevecchi caught two for 30 yards.

Hall led the defense with six tackles, while Lizzie Waughon had four.

Keystone opened the season with a 13-0 win at Palatka on Feb. 28. Hutchins rushed for 162 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries, while Bright completed 8 of 13 passes for 78 yards and one touchdown. Alee Horton caught Bright’s scoring pass and finished with three receptions for 45 yards.

The rushing effort also included Gagnon gaining 30 yards on two carries, Bright gaining 25 yards on five carries and Horton gaining 23 yards on two carries.

Aiyana James had five sacks in leading the team with seven tackles. Horton and Rexi Lewis each made four tackles.

 On March 2, Bright completed 10 of 13 passes for 131 yards as the Indians defeated host Orange Park 19-13.

Gagnon was the leading receiver with six catches for 90 yards. Miranda Yow caught one pass for 25 yards, while Alana Anderson caught two for 22 yards.

Hutchins rushed for 70 yards on eight carries, while Horton added 23 yards on four carries.

Bright and James each made an interception for the defense, which got four tackles from Madison Woodward.

Keystone pulled out a 13-12 win over visiting Middleburg on March 9, with Bright throwing a touchdown to Gagnon and Hutchins rushing for another score.

Hutchins finished with 81 yards on four carries, while Bright completed 7 of 13 passes for 105 yards. Gagnon caught three passes for 81 yards, while Anderson had two receptions for 24 yards.

The defense got five tackles from Hutchins and four from Waughon.

Keystone visited Interlachen on March 21, winning 28-0. Bright completed 4 of 6 passes for 53 yards, while Horton completed 2 of 5 passes for 45 yards.

Yow caught on pass for 40 yards, while Gagnon caught two for 35 yards. Anderson had two receptions for 23 yards.

Hutchins was the leading ground gainer with 53 yards on four carries, while Horton added 40 yards on three carries.

Woodward and Tatum Hall each made four tackles for the defense, which also got two sacks by Hutchins.

James picked off two passes, while Anderson had one interception.

The Indians host Bradford (7-0) on Tuesday, March 28, at 6 p.m.
