STARKE—Emma, a 12-year-old from Charlotte County, visited the Union County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Brad Whitehead to present the agency with handmade wooden American flags.

“We proudly display the flags in our offices,” the agency said in a social media post. “Thank you so much, Emma, for bringing smiles to the Union County Sheriff’s Office and your kindness.  Sheriff Whitehead said more young people should follow the example of Emma and work to do good and bring more smiles.”

The teenager gave her homemade carvings to Chief Deputy Lyn Williams, recognizing his 32 years of service, to Deputy Staci Stock for 25 years of service, to Lieutenant Billy Miller for 33 years of service and to Corporal Phillip Sellers for 17 years of service.

Emma has given over 185 flags to nearly all of the sheriff’s offices around the state.

Last year, during a stop in Santa Rosa County, she told a Panhandle television station that she wants to do something positive for those who have a dangerous and difficult job.

“I just love seeing the police officers be happy about being appreciated,” Emma told WEAR-TV in Pensacola, “because they deserve it, because they protect us, and they do a lot for us.”

Emma said she hopes one day to be a K-9 Officer.
