Union livestock show growing every year

The Union County Livestock Association began in 2020, with the hopes of giving Union livestock exhibitors the opportunity to show closer to home.

The association’s first show was interrupted due to COVID-19, but that did not deter their efforts. The number of exhibitors has increased every year, and so has the size of their facility.

One month ago, the association’s fourth annual livestock fair successfully came to a close. The fair kicked off on March 14, with the weigh-in of swine and cattle. By the end of the night, there was a total of 64 hogs and 35 steers in the barn.

The swine show took place the following day and was judged by Wyatt Wolf. The Grand Champion hog was exhibited by Kindall Johnson, and the Reserve Grand Champion by Layla Barber.

The Grand Champion Showmanship Awards went to Naliana Hampton (Junior), Jamie-Lynn Courson (Intermediate) and Kindall Johnson (Senior).

The steer show took place on the evening of March 17, and was judged by Lynn Davis. Rafe Alvarez exhibited the Grand Champion steer, which was also the Home Grown Grand Champion. The Reserve Grand Champion steer was shown by Brady Tetstone.

The Grand Champion Showmanship Award went to Charley Box (Junior), Miley Wilson (Intermediate) and Addison Wright (Senior). The show
