Kadence Massey allowed just three hits as the Keystone Heights High School softball team, which got three RBI each from Alaina Kinsall and Ashley Nugent, defeated Beachside 11-0 in the District 3-3A tournament quarterfinals on May 1 at KHHS.
The third seed Indians (7-17) will play second seed Palatka (12-10) in a semifinal game on Tuesday, May. 1, at KHHS at 5 p.m.
Massey, who pitched all five innings and struck out eight, pitched herself out of a first-inning jam. The Barracudas (7-12) loaded the bases with two outs on an error, a walk and a single, but a fly ball to right fielder Ashlyn Brown resulted in the third out.
Keystone had no one on with two outs in the bottom of the first when Kiley Channell walked. An error on a ground ball hit by Nugent allowed Channell to score and Nugent to reach safely. Nugent then scored on an Amber Wagner single.
Madallynn Glinski hit a solo home run in the third to put the Indians ahead 3-0.
The rest of the Indians’ runs occurred in an eight-run third inning. Wagner drew a one-out walk, stole second, advanced to third on a Massey ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Caitlin Frampton walked, while Glinski and Riley Shuford were both hit by pitches to load the bases. Kinsall, who went 2 for 3, hit a double that scored all runners. Abbie Roach, who also went 2 for 3, hit a single to score Kinsall. After Channell was hit by a pitch, Nugent hit a three-run homer to end the scoring.
