STARKE— The Florida Highway Patrol said a hit-and-run claimed the life of a pedestrian in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 15.
FHP said it did not know if the victim was standing, walking or lying on the roadway when a westbound vehicle struck the pedestrian around 2:20 a.m. and fled from the scene.
After the initial collision, a second westbound vehicle driven by a 24-year-old Starke man also struck the victim.
The 24-year-old stopped and contacted emergency services.
The incident occurred on County Road 227, west of Southwest 57th Avenue, close to the county road’s intersection with U.S. 301, near Murray Ford.
