KEYSTONE HEIGHTS—A Clay County commissioner is continuing her efforts to name State Road 230 between Starke and Kingsley Lake in honor of the late Dr. Peter Gianas.
Until he died in 2021, Gianas served as the medical director for Alachua County Fire Rescue, Bradford County Fire Rescue, Clay County Fire Rescue, Union County Emergency Medical Services, Gilchrist County Fire Rescue, Starke Fire Rescue, Santa Fe College emergency medical services training programs and Florida Gateway College emergency medical service training programs.
State legislators approve memorials for state highways and require resolutions from local governments before approving the designations.
Betsy Condon started the effort last year and told her colleagues on the Clay County Board of County Commissioners during its Aug. 8, 2023 meeting that Bradford County officials have agreed to support the action and that State Rep. Chuck Brannan had agreed to sponsor the measure in the legislature next year.
