STARKE—The State Attorney’s Office has dropped charges against a 49-year-old Starke man for felony battery, resisting an officer, and aggravated assault.

According to an arrest report, Anthony Joe Akin was accused on May 9 of punching his girlfriend, threatening to kill the woman while holding a gun, and running from police.

However, on July 25, prosecutors filed a case action report dropping the charges.

The July action marks the fifth time Akin has defeated felony charges.

On Aug. 25, 2011, he was arrested for battery and petit theft, but prosecutors later dropped those charges.

On Oct. 20, 2020, he was accused of assault and resisting an officer without violence. Prosecutors dropped the assault charge, and Akin was acquitted of resisting.

On Jan. 24, 2022, and on May 2, 2022, Akin was arrested for aggravated stalking, charges that the state later dropped.
