Olivia Griffin places 2nd for Indians at Clay Co. Invitational

Keystone Heights High School got a runner-up finish from Olivia Griffin, while its boys team placed fifth at the Sept. 9 Clay County Cross Country Invitational in Green Cove Springs.

Griffin’s time of 20:33 put her one second ahead of Providence’s Emma Akhundjanov in the 123-runner field. St. Johns Country Day’s Rebecca Stratton took first with a time of 19:54.

Keystone’s Melody Tyre also placed in the top half of the field with a 43rd-place time of 25:08.

The Indians also had the following girls results: Cali Chamberlain 26:37, Brook Graudons 26:59, Alonah Neeld 27:09, Ella Hutchins 28:41, Madilyn Miller 31:57, Clara Beth Robinson 32:06 and Schiley Starling 33:22.

Tyler Griffin led the boys team with an 18th-place time of 18:03. Eight of his teammates also finished in the top half of the 169-runner field. Ryder Thomas and Anthony Peak each ran 19:25, placing 35th and 36th, while Hunter Sheppard was 37th with a time of 19:26. Jaden Park was 52nd with a time of 20:19, Bryce Huntley 56th with a time of 20:27, Jason Parales 78th with a time of 21:53, Josiah Durrenberger 79th with a time of 21:54 and Kipton Spence 84th with a time of 22:00.

The Indians also had the following results: Mason Gray 24:04, Oliver Miller 25:01, Hunter Gray 27:20 and Eli Rabe 27:23.

In the team standings, Keystone placed behind Providence, Menendez, Suwanne and Ridgeview.

Keystone’s Ryleigh Thomas ran in the middle-school girls race, placing 49th out of 146 with a time of 14:23.

The Indians also had a runner in the middle-school boys race: Lucas Rabe, who had a time of 18:18.

Prior to the Clay Invitational, Keystone took part in the Sept. 2 Ridgeview Bob Hans Invitational, with Tyler Griffin and Thomas earning 37th- and 46th-place finishes in the 204-member boys field. Griffin had a time of 18:41, while Thomas ran 18:58.

The boys also had the following results: Peak 21:21, Park 21:25, Sheppard 21:32, Huntley 22:04, Spence 22:08 and Parales 22:09.

Olivia Griffin placed 43rd out of 148 in the girls race with a time of 22:46. Tyre and Chamberlain had times of 26:31 and 28:00, respectively, while Graudons ran 32:22.

Keystone had the following results in the junior varsity boys race: Hunter Gray 26:03, Mason Gray 26:49, Rabe 29:20 and Miller 30:24.

In the JV girls race, Neeld had a time of 27:53, followed by Elyn Reddish 29:13, Miller 35:09, Kristen Lavin 35:39, Starling 35:47 and Robinson 35:49.

Keystone will host the Indian Invite on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Trinity Camp (7996 County Line Road, Melrose). The varsity boys race will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by the girls race at 8:15.
