UCHS falls to 3-3 in volleyball with home loss to Branford

Union County High School’s volleyball team dropped its second straight match, losing 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-17) to visiting Branford on Sept. 11.

Branford was the team the Tigers (3-3) defeated for the District 6-1A championship last season. Union then defeated Branford in the first round of the regional playoffs.

Stats weren’t available by deadline.

The Tigers hosted Class 4A Keystone Heights on Sept. 5, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22). Indi Knox had 13 kills, while Jailyn Simmons and Layla Barber had eight and six, respectively. Barber also added eight digs.

Junrey Crim led the team in digs with 20, while also recording three service aces.

Kamryn Southerland had 15 assists and eight digs, while Jordan Hendricks had nine assists and seven digs.

Union hosted 4A Baker County on Sept. 7, losing 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-18). Barber and Simmons had seven and five kills, respectively. Barber also had four digs, while Simmons had six.

Hendricks led the team in digs with 13. Crim and Bella Johns added 10 and eight, respectively.

Southerland, who had five digs, recorded eight assists. Hendricks had six assists.

The Tigers play at Bell on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m., following a junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m.

Union will compete in the Friday through Saturday, Sept. 15-16, Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association River City Classic. The Tigers then travel to Gainesville to play The Rock on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 p.m., following a 5:30 p.m. JV match.
