College breaks ground on skilled trades institute

The facility is named in honor of longtime trustee Ralph Wilson Cellon Jr.

STARKE—Santa Fe College broke ground on a 22,860-square-foot facility that will house training for welding, HVAC and other trades, in addition to hosting a future program in advanced manufacturing.

The facility, named in honor of longtime trustee Ralph Wilson Cellon Jr., will be located in the northwest corner of the college’s main Northwest Gainesville campus.

State Rep. Bobby Payne said the new facility will fill a critical role in providing a skilled labor force.

“The future of Florida, as far as job growth and advancement, starts here at Santa Fe,” said Payne, who represents the Keystone Heights area. “We’re looking forward to those things that will continue to come for advanced technology, for new jobs, for apprentice programs, all those things that we see that will be a part of this great new building.”
