LAKE BUTLER—Superintendent Mike Ripplinger recognized a student and an adult for outstanding volunteer service to Union County Schools during the 2022-2023 school year.
Nancy Griffins and Emma Fulton won the Florida Department of Education’s Volunteer of the Year Award.
Ripplinger said Griffis is a retired teacher who continues to contribute to the well-being of students through the Rotary’s high school Interact Club.
“They do a variety of things with Farm Share, with putting out flags at the cemeteries and also, as we all know, with the putting out of the crosses and the flags each year at Veteran’s Day and also Memorial Day,” the superintendent said.
Ripplinger said Fulton assists with health screenings at the elementary school in addition to her work with her school band.
“Volunteer roles are extremely important,” school board chair Becky Raulerson told the award recipients. “We couldn’t do everything we do in our district without volunteers, so thank you very much.”
