Keystone Heights High School went 0-3 in a Sept. 21 boys golf match at The Golf Club at Fleming Island, losing to teams that proved to be among the state’s best last year.
The Class 1A Indians (10-4) had a team score of 160, which left them just seven strokes behind Class 2A Beachside, which was third at state in 2022. Host Fleming Island, which placed sixth in last season’s Class 3A state finals, placed first with a score of 136, followed by 2022 Class 1A runner-up Episcopal, which had a score of 141.
Nick Binet, who had a birdie and made par on six holes, led Keystone with a seventh-place score of 37. Alex Addington and Ty Mitzel each shot a 40 to tie for 15th. Addington had a birdie and made par on four holes, while Mitzel had two birdies and made par on four holes.
Jacob Beach, hwo had a birdie and made par on three holes, and Connor Guy, who made par on four holes, each shot a 43. Shepherd Rozier, who made par on two holes, had a score of 53.
Keystone entered the match off its first loss of the season. The Indians hosted Class 2A Clay on Sept. 19, finishing with a team score of 158, which was seven strokes behind Clay.
Addington was the low-score medalist, finishing one stroke ahead of Clay’s Jack Newell. He had two birdies and made par on six holes in shooting a 35.
Binet, Guy and Mitzel each shot a 41 to tie for sixth. Binet had a birdie and made par on three holes. Guy and Mitzel each made par on four holes, with Guy also recording a birdie.
Rozier, who had two birdies and made par on two holes, shot a 47, while Hunter Sheppard, who had an eagle and made par on one hole, shot a 49.
