STARKE—A 38-year-old Jacksonville man was sentenced to six months in jail and one year of probation after pleading to uttering a forged bill.
Steven Randall Dodson was arrested on October 2 for the March 8 offense.
According to court papers, the defendant presented check number 8857 for $1,500 to a teller at Starke’s Capital City Bank for cash drawn on the victim’s account.
However, bank workers noted that the victim’s most recent cleared check was number 8767 and called the customer to verify the authenticity of the defendant’s document.
“While the teller was on the phone with (the victim),” police reported in a sworn complaint, “the suspect was alerted to the phone call and the nature of the phone call and began to attempt to get the check back by asking and physically attempting to take the check. After his attempts failed, he fled the scene, leaving behind the check and his Florida ID card.”
