KEYSTONE HEIGHTS—Clay County Public Schools Athletic Director Jay Stilianou told the school board during its December 7 meeting that all seven of the county’s high schools and two of its junior highs participated in this year’s American Cancer Society Pink Out Games fundraiser.
Stilianou said this was the second year the school district’s athletic directors led the county-wide event, and the campaign raised $14,429, nearly $10,000 more than last year.
Keystone Heights High School led the district in fundraising with $2,600. During the campaign, Orange Park, Middleburg, Clay, and Oakleaf high schools raised over $2,000 each.
Jacqueline Rodriguez, representing the American Cancer Society, told the board that the organization is investing more than $78 million through 160 grants for breast cancer research.
“The estimated number of people who have heard or will hear the words: ‘You have breast cancer’ this year is 300,590, and of that number, 2,800 will be men,” she said. “Our trained cancer information staff answers live calls and chats, and the number one information request is breast cancer.”
