Keystone Heights High School had three wrestlers pin their opponents in a 42-24 win over visiting Bishop Snyder on Dec. 20.
Phoenix Contes pinned his opponent in 1:24 to win the 132-pound class, while Henry Carhuayo won the 138 class by pinning his opponent in 34 seconds. Arthur Durning recorded a pin in 1:15 to win the 144 class.
Bishop Snyder forfeited four classes, which awarded wins to Atreyu Contes (106), Cason Burton (113), Jared Goetzman (120) and Alyx Nichols (175).
Six members of Keystone’s team in all got to actually wrestle. Riley McGorty was able to take his opponent into the third period in the 126 class before getting pinned with 1:13 left. Seth Fernandez (150) and Marcellus Beem (165) were both pinned in the first period of their matches.
Three classes were forfeited by both teams.
The match didn’t last long, so some of the Keystone wrestlers took on each other in five exhibition matches.
Beem was recognized before the match as the team’s lone senior.
The Indians entered the match off a third-place finish at the District 4-1A duals on Dec. 19 in Palatka. Keystone defeated Palatka and Baldwin, while losing to Union County.
In the 42-36 win over Palatka, Durning and Nichols won by pinning their opponents. Burton, Goetzman, McGorty, Carhuayo and Mikey McCall (113) all won by forfeit.
Durning, McCall and Atreyu Contes all pinned their opponents in a 53-18 win over Baldwin. Nichols earned a win by technical fall.
Baldwin forfeited five classes, resulting in wins for Carhuayo, Fernandez, Goetzman, McGorty and Phoenix Contes.
In a 54-30 loss to Union, Keystone had three wrestlers pin their opponents: Carhuayo, Goetzman and Atreyu Contes. McCall and McGorty were winners by forfeit.
