St. Johns River State College baseball catcher Tripp Davis, a 2021 Union County High School graduate, was recently awarded a “deserving walk-on scholarship.” According to Head Coach Ross Jones, it was an easy decision. “Tripp Davis was that player who has exceeded expectations,” Jones said. “In Tripp’s two and a half years at SJR State, he has not only developed into a solid baseball player for our program, he has become a leader. He has earned his opportunity and this scholarship.” Davis, who is pictured between Jones (left) and St. Johns River State College President Joe Pickens, was a part of a Vikings team that in 2023 won the program’s first-ever state championship and placed third at the NJCAA Division II World Series.
