STARKE— A 26-year-old Starke man was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading to trafficking in phenethylamines, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and driving with a suspended license.
According to an arrest report, a Bradford deputy stopped Cody Michael Jones near the intersection of Starke’s Orange and Weldon Streets after a covering over the defendant’s tag made the plate unreadable.
Deputy Paul King wrote in the report that dispatch notified him that the defendant’s license had been suspended 10 times. While conducting a search of Jones’ silver Ford pickup, the officer found a loaded Glock 0.45 caliber firearm and a plastic bag containing 26.85 grams of methamphetamine.
King reported that Jones had just been released from prison after serving time for a probation violation and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The defendant told King he was unaware of the gun and drugs in his truck and blamed a passenger he had just dropped off for leaving the items in his vehicle.
