Jail for driving with a revoked license

STARKE—Thomas Mitchell Edwards, 72, was initially stopped on January 17, 2022, near Starke’s Tractor Supply for a driver’s license violation and was arrested on an additional drug charge after Bradford deputies found crack cocaine in his pants pocket.

Three months later, he pleaded to possession of cocaine and was sentenced to 13 days served, followed by six months’ community control and 30 months’ probation.

On January 3, 2024, an Alachua deputy stopped Edwards while the defendant was driving a truck for work. According to a violation report, the defendant’s license had been permanently revoked after several DUI convictions.

On January 16, Circuit Judge James M. Colaw sent Edwards to county jail for 120 days with 23 days’ credit for time served and reinstated Edwards’s probation with the original termination date.
