Lake Region road projects drop in priority

In a priority list sent from the Clay County Government to a North Florida transportation planning organization, road projects in the Keystone Heights area have dropped in priority.

A proposal to realign and reconstruct Airport Road and Crystal Lake Camp Road dropped from 12 to 14 from 2023 to 2024.

Improvements to the intersection of Lawrence Blvd. (State Road 21) and Walker Drive (State Road 100) were listed as the ninth priority in 2023 but do not appear in the county’s top 15 projects for 2024.

County Commissioner Betsy Condon argued for keeping the Keystone Heights intersection on the list. However, county staff and commissioners said growth in the Asbury Lake area and recommendations from the Florida Department of Transportation District 2 office moved projects north of State Road 16 and between U.S. 17 and State Road 21 higher onto the priority list and crowded out the Keystone Heights intersection project.
