Keystone Heights High School scored five runs on errors in defeating visiting Interlachen 11-4 in a Feb. 29 baseball game.
The Indians (3-1) built a big lead early with six runs in the first inning. Austin Smith and Aiden Screen drove in runs on a single and a double, respectively, while Brady Kerlin and Ty Mitzel each drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Errors allowed both Kerlin and Mitzel to reach, while another error allowed Kerlin to score.
Keystone scored three runs on two errors in the second to make it a 9-0 game.
Tyler Brinson batted in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Smith and Alex Addington each went 2 for 4.
Kerlin earned the start on the mound, giving up two runs (one earned) and no hits in three innings.
Mitzel pitched three innings as well, striking out nine batters. He allowed one hit and two unearned runs.
Screen closed it out, striking out three of the four batters he faced.
The Indians entered the game off a 4-2 win at North Marion on Feb. 27.
Keystone scored three runs with two outs in the second, taking advantage of two errors and getting an RBI single from Connor Guy.
Guy, who led off the game with a home run, went 2 for 4 with two RBI. The rest of the team was held to two hits.
Starting pitcher Austin Musgrove gave up one run and four hits through five innings. He had four strikeouts.
Gage Barry threw the final two innings, giving up one run and one hit. He struck out three.
The Indians travel to play Williston on Tuesday, March 5, at 7 p.m. and will host Baker County on Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. Keystone travels to play Palatka on Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m.
