An error in the bottom of the third proved to be the ultimate difference in the Bradford High School softball team’s 9-8 win over visiting Bolles on March 1.
The teams combined for 15 runs in the first three innings, with the Tornadoes (1-3) building an 8-4 lead. A six-run second inning by Bradford included RBI singles by Tinsley Higginbotham and Addyson Hinds and an RBI double by Keegan Yowell.
Amber Wynn singled in the third and scored when the Bulldogs committed an error on a Yowell single.
Bolles hit a single and two doubles in scoring two runs in the sixth to make it a 9-8 game.
The Bulldogs had a runner reach on an error with one out in the seventh. A pop-up to second baseman Higginbotham led to a game-ending double play.
Yowell finished 4 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI, while Kallie Yowell went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Higginbotham, Hinds and Rylie Blankenship each went 2 for 4, with Blankenship and Hinds each hitting a double. Hinds had two RBI, while Blankenship and Higginbotham each had one.
Summer Sutton, who hit a double, had one RBI.
Starting pitcher Emy Crawford, who threw four innings, earned the win, giving up four hits.
Bailey Smith pitched the final three innings, allowing three hits and no walks.
Bradford travels to play Middleburg on Thursday, March 7, at 6 p.m. The Tornadoes then go on the road to play Baldwin on Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m. before returning home to play Interlachen on Tuesday, March 12, at 7 p.m.
