Bethea, Diston lead Tigers at Feb. 27 track and field meet

Amia Bethea earned a runner-up finish for the girls team, while Dayquan Diston had two fourth-place finishes for the boys as the Union County High School track and field team competed at the Feb. 27 Santa Fe Raiders Mini Meet.

Bethea ran a second-place time of 26.67 in the 200m and was one of two on the girls to earn a top-10 finish. Taleyah Smith was seventh in the shot put with a distance of 27-0.5.

Other girls results were: 100m — Faith Sirmones 14.36, Holly Halfacre 15.0, Daina Smith 17.15; 200m — Sirmones 30.54; long jump — Halfacre 12-11.5; and shot put — Ja’Kari Hill 20-9, Briena Haight 20-7.25.

Diston’s fourth-place finishes occurred in the 100m and 200m with times of 11.39 and 23.06.

C.J. Ivey was 10th in the shot put with a distance of 35-4.

The Tigers also had the following boys results: 100m — Bobo Woodall 12.0, Blake McCoy 12.13, Matthew Rogers 13.65; 200m — Deonte Jones 24.4, Bo Thomas 24.44, Brycen Boney 24.85; 800m — Gavin Smith 2:14, Michael Hill 2:28, Dane Johnson 2:33; 1600m — Ashton Bunkley 6:11; long jump — McCoy 16-10.5, Johnson 15-3.25, Ibn Williams 15-2.25; and shot put — Jacob Jenkins 33-2.5, Anthony Holmes 27-10.75.
