Kenneth Hampton Sr.

Mr. Kenneth C. Hampton Sr.,  65, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was a graduate of Bradford High School Class of 1978. Following his graduation he moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey where he worked for various organizations such as the Greyhound Bus Company, Ballys, Tropicana Casino, The State of New Jersey and Barrett Outdoor Living.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Hampton; his children: Settia, Kenneth Jr, LaToya and O’Keima (bonus daughter);  grandchildren, Cayson and Liberti; his mother, Sylvia Hampton; siblings, Evelyn, Elva Jr., Mikal, Lenora, Cecil, Lord Nubian, Terry and Temika.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23 at the Starke Church of God by Faith with Rev. Alvin Green, eulogist, and Bishop James E. Mcknight, presiding. Interment will be at Peetsville Cemetery in Lawtey,  under the direction of Haile Funeral Home Inc., 802 N. Oak St. Starke, 904-964-7905. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. (1 hour prior to the service.).

Scott Maas

Scott Alan Maas passed on to be with our Lord on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024 in Rockledge after a brief illness. He was born May 18, 1964 in Des Moines, Iowa. and was baptized Dec. 5, 1976 at Scenic Bay Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger W. Maas.

Survivors are his mother, Anne E. Maas; two daughters, Summer Dawn and Sunnie Day, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Bret J. (Cheryl) Hines; sister, Rene (Kurt) Nall; several grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and extended family members.

A service honoring his life will be held Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. at New Freedom Baptist Church, 7207 SR 21, Keystone Heights, 32656.

Katy McCombs

Katy Lee McCombs, 91, a lifelong resident of Lawtey, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024. She was born in Virgina on Jan. 31, 1933, to the late Dale and Margarette Mitchell. “Ms. Katy,” which most would call her, was a God-fearing woman; she loved the Lord and had a spiritual soul that believed in the power of prayer. She spent most of her days burning up the phone lines seeking and praying for the sick and the lost. She believed there was power in the Word of God and offered a Bible verse for anything negative that someone was going through. She was loved by many and will truly be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew McCombs; daughter, Beulah “Marie” Bruner; and nine siblings.

She is survived by her grandchildren/caregivers, Nathan (Joseph Fugatt) Blom, and Amy Blom; son-in-law, Harry Bruner; sisters, Peggy Dobbs and Phyliss James; her children, Charles (Jennifer) Smith, Margaret (David) Albert, Mary (David) Scott, John (Eshin) Smith, and Martha (Jason) Hamm. Along with 12 other grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Out of respect for her wishes, a formal service will not be held, but family and friends had a gathering at the Christ Church of Starke on Saturday, March 9.

Edna Nershi

Mrs. Edna May Nershi, 107, of Keystone Heights died at Willey Manor Assisted Living on Monday, March 18, 2024. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Meno Nershi.

Survivors are her two daughters, Barbara Sands of Tampa and Elizabeth Nershi of San Diego, California. A private interment was held at Keystone Heights Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the Park of the Palms at a late date.

Wilbur Nettles

Wilbur Nettles

Wilbur “Bill” Rance Nettles, 82, of Keystone Heights passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka. He was born June 16, 1941 in Lake Butler to Wilbur and Inez (Thomas) Nettles and had served in the United States Air Force. Following a 33-year career with Clay Electric, he began a second career with Clay County School system as a substitute teacher for the next 17 years. He was an active member of Gadara Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to church and his church family, along with camping, and especially, fishing. His most  cherished times were spent with his family. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sons, Ronald Harper Jr. and Russell Nettles; and siblings, Melinda Nettles, Lucinda Johnson, and Julian Nettles.

His survivors are Diane (Thomas) Nettles, who has been the love of his life for the past 52 years; a daughter, Donna McDavid (Eric Bauer) of Gainesville; and a brother, Wendell Nettles of Lake City. Also left behind is his daughter-in-law, Jill Harper; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Jim) Briggle; brother-in-law, Rowan (Diane) Thomas, all of Keystone Heights; and a sister-in-law, Melba Nettles of Lake Butler; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins that will miss him dearly. He was lovingly called “Papa” by Morgan (Dan) Bader, Erika Harper, Austin (Melissa) McDavid, and Elliott (Kathleen) McDavid; and great- grandchildren, Rhett McDavid and Luke Bader.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 17. Funeral services were held, Monday, March 18 at Gadara Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn House officiating. Interment followed at Hall-Gadara Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Gadara Baptist Church Building Fund, 6779 CR 315C, Keystone Heights, 32656.

Carrie Mae Ritch

Carrie Mae Ritch, 88, of Starke, died Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Park of the Palms in Keystone Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents;  husband, James “Jimmy” Marks Ritch; son, Shaun Ritch; and sister; Marjorie Hall Packham. 

Survivors are her children, Pam (Joe) Lee, Debbie (Norman) Traylor, and Montez (David) Carter; daughter-in-law, Christine Ritch of Keystone Heights; brother, Rodney (Janice) Hall;   and numerous extended family members.

A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, March 19, at Archie Tanner Funeral Services Chapel.   A private interment was held at Prevatt Cemetery.

Quinqune Robinson

Quinqune T. Robinson, 49, of Lawtey, passed on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Bradford County and attended the local schools of Bradford County. She was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her mother, Deborah Cruger; sons, Earl Johnson III and Ajheem Roddey; brothers, Kevin Robinson and Donnell Robinson; sisters, Kartina Robinson, Altina Robinson and Stacey Roberts; ten grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and sorrowing friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m on Saturday, March 23,  at the Governor Charley E. Johns Conference Center, 1610 N. Temple Ave. Starke, 32091 with Pastor Dennis Pulliam conducting the services. Interment will be held at Clark Cemetery in Starke, under the direction of Haile Funeral Home Inc., 802 N. Ms. Winshay Roddey, 25, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at her residence. She was a graduate of Bradford County High School and Bradford County Vocational Center, receiving a certificate in early childhood.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her parents, Winslow and Claretta Roddey; grandparents, Clarence and Lillie Roddey, and Debra and Daniel Cruger; sisters, T’Keyah Roddey, Tileta Roddey, and Jadia Roddey; stepsisters, Sharmean Alford, and Sarah Williams; brothers, Winslow Roddey Jr., Earl Johnson, and Rajheem Roddey; stepbrothers, Nikeam Alford, Shyheim Williams, and Isaiah Williams. Winshay’s demise was with her family, her mother, Quinqune Robinson; and sister, Denesha Sims.

Danesha M. Sims, 27 of Lawtey, passed on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at her residence. She was a lifelong resident of Bradford County and attended the local schools of Bradford County. She was of the Christian faith and was employed at Shands @ North Florida Regional Hospital in Starke. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her grandmother, Deborah Cruger; her siblings; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and grieving friends.
