UCHS boys get 4 wins at March 14 track meet

Union County High School’s track and field teams competed in a March 14 meet hosted by Branford, earning four wins on the boys side and one on the girls side.

The Tigers won two boys relay events, with Blake McCoy, Brycen Boney, Bobo Woodall and Dayquan Diston teaming up to run 45.15 in the 4x100m and McCoy, Boney, Bo Thomas and Deonte Jones teaming up to run 3:47 in the 4x400m.

Woodall won the 100m with a time of 11.21, while Jones won the 400m with a time of 53.09.

Diston finished second to Woodall in the 100m with a time of 11.26. Gavin Sparkman was runner-up in the 800m with a time of 2:30.

Union had three third-place finishes: Braylen Tyson in the 200m (25.41), Thomas in the 400m (55.35) and McCoy in the long jump (18-5.25).

C.J. Ivey was fourth in the discus (92-7.75), while Dillon Lane was fourth in the shot put (33-4).

Fifth-place finishes were earned by Tyson in the 100m (12.36), Boney in the 400m (57.09), Ashton Bunkley in the 3200m (14:38) and Jacob Jenkins in the shot put (32-10).

Lane was eighth in the discus (82-6.25), while Anthony Holmes was eighth in the shot put (31-0).

Other boys results were: 100m — Zayden Williams 13.69; 200m — Thomas 29.74, Boney 30.58; 800m — Williams 2:46; discus — Matthew Rogers 70-10.75; and shot put — Ivey 30-10.5.

Faith Sirmones won an event for the girls team, running the 200m in 29.88. Teammate Holly Halfacre had a third-place time of 31.43.

Ivy Wilson was runner-up in the 100m with a time of 14.31.

Mia Odum took fourth in the 400m (1:12), while fifth-place finishes were earned by Mackenzie Ring in the 800m (3:08), Amia Bethea in the long jump (12-1.25) and Melinda Mabrey in the shot put (24-5.75).

Ring finished sixth in the 1600m (7:25), while Makenzie Barry was seventh in the long jump (11-11.25).

Eighth-place finishes were earned by Maddison McKenzie in the 400m (1:23) and Briena Haight in the shot put (23-11).

Other girls results were: 100m — McKenzie 15.52, Barry 15.76; long jump — Odum 11-4.5, Halfacre 10-10.25; discus — Haight 51-5.25, Mari Williams 45-6.75, Ja’Kari Hill 44-1.5; and shot put — Sommer McKenzie 14-8.
