Bethea’s 2 wins and Jones’ 2nd-place finish lead UCHS in track

Union County High School and Lake Butler Middle School track and field athletes competed at the March 27 Oak Hall mini meet, with Amia Bethea earning two wins in the girls events and Deonte Jones finishing as a runner-up in one event on the boys side.

Bethea won the 100m with a time of 12.41 and took first in the 200m with a time of 25.98.

Melinda Mabrey placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 26-1.75, while the Tigers had the eighth- and ninth-place finishers in the girls long jump. Ivy Wilson and Latoya Hampton jumped 12-5.25 and 12-2.75, respectively.

Other girls results were: 100m — Wilson 14.17, Hayden Robinson 14.78, Hampton 15.85, Elauna Roberts 15.97; 200m — Tierra Williams 29.81, Robinson 30.78, Daina Smith 35.33; 400m — Mia Odum 1:11, Maddison McKenzie 1:16; 800m — Rachel Harris 3:04, Mackenzie Ring 3:04; 1600m — Harris 7:02; discus — Briena Haight 52-11, Mari Williams 45-9.25, Ja’Kari Hill 45-8.5; and shot put — Jayde Miller 17-5.75, Sommer McKenzie 14-10.

Jones placed second in the boys 400m with a time of 51.75. The Tigers’ Bo Thomas and Blake McCoy finished fourth and seventh, respectively, with times of 53.68 and 55.22.

Dayquan Diston earned two top-five finishes. He ran the third-place time of 23.08 in the 200m and the fifth-place time of 11.37 in the 100m.

McCoy placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 18-3, while C.J. Ivey was seventh in the discus with a throw of 88-10.5.

Thomas finished in the top 10 in the 200m with a ninth-place time of 24.3.

Union also had the following boys results: 100m — Braylen Tyson 12.94, Ivey 13.52; 200m — Brycen Boney 24.82, Tyson 25.29, Damon Ferrer 29.83; 400m — Boney 56.77, Ferrer 1:06; 800m — Gavin Smith 2:19, Dane Johnson 2:37, Zayden Williams 2:47; 1600m — Ashton Bunkley 6:09; discus — Matthew Rogers 73-9.5, Dillon Lane 71-8.75; and shot put — Jacob Jenkins 33-8, Lane 30-2.25.
