Sheriff Whitehead running for reelection
The following in an announcement of intention to seek public office paid for by the candidate.
I would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for reelection to sheriff of Union County. It has been such a great honor and privilege to serve as your sheriff for the past 10 years. I would like to continue our mission in making our sheriff’s office and our county the best in the state to live, work and raise our children.
I am a lifelong resident of Union County, graduating from Union County High School in 1994 and then attending Lake City Community College (now known as Florida Gateway College). I then attended Florida State University, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminology in 1998. I have been married to Jennifer Starling Whitehead since 2002 and we have two children both attending Union County High School. We attend First Baptist Church of Lake Butler and are involved in many events within our community.
I work hard to battle the plaque of illegal drugs in our community and established the Tri-County Drug Task Force to continue to fight illegal drugs and the terrible effects it brings to our families. This is a constant and ongoing battle that we fight daily.
We continue to partner with our local schools to keep our children safe. This has always been a top priority for me, and it is evident in the resources and involvement of our agency in the school system. Our agency also uses all resources to solve any crimes. No crime is too small, and our agency always ranks in the top 5% of all agencies in crime clearance year after year.
Our work is not finished. We recently fought hard and obtained over 17 million dollars for Union County to construct a new public safety complex to house our emergency communications center and a new Union County Jail that we will see construction on very soon. Our agency also just completed phase one of professional state accreditation.
I love Union County and the citizens I serve. I take great pride in our agency, my community and all the hard-working deputies, correctional officers, communication officers and staff that serve tirelessly around the clock. I believe the key to successful law enforcement is community involvement and I continue to ask for your support as sheriff of Union County as we continue our mission together.
Candidates may submit an announcement and photograph to run one time for $50. The deadline to submit announcements is Monday, June 17, at 5 p.m. Email announcements to [email protected] and make arrangements to pay prior to publication.
