Union County High School picked up its first win in volleyball, but then dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-16) match on Aug. 22 to Oak Hall, a team that advanced to the Final Four in the Class 2A playoffs last year.
The Tigers, who play in the Rural classification, got eight kills and five blocks from Jailyn Simmons. Morgan Smith and Layla Barber had six and five kills, respectively.
Indi Knox led the team in digs with 10. Kamryn Southerland and Bella Johns had nine and eight, respectively.
Abigail Williams, who had five digs, recorded a team-high seven assists, while Southerland had six.
Union (1-2) entered the match off a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-19) win over Class 3A Bradford on Aug. 20 in Starke.
Simmons had three blocks and recorded 10 kills, while Barber and Smith each had eight kills. Knox added six kills.
Johns had a team-high 20 digs, with the Tigers also getting seven from Southerland and six from Barber.
Southerland and Williams had 15 and 10 assists, respectively.
Union travels to play Lafayette on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m., following a junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers play their first home match on Thursday, Aug. 29, playing Oak Hall again. A JV match will be played at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6:30 p.m.
The Tigers go on the road to play Suwannee on Monday, Sept. 2, with the JV teams playing at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity teams playing at 6:30 p.m. Union then returns home to play Williston on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 6 p.m., following a 5 p.m. JV match.
