KHHS volleyball team gets in win column

Keystone Heights High School’s volleyball team lost its first four matches, but has now won two in a row after a 3-2 (27-25, 22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-7) win at Newberry on Sept. 3.

Mia Rivera had 18 kills against Newberry, while Mya Jennings had five kills and five service aces.

Kaleigh Marquart and Kadence Massey also had five aces each. Marquart also recorded 32 assists, while Massey and Kaylee Paschall shared the team high in digs with eight each.

Kyleigh Kitchen added five digs.

The Indians (2-4) opened the season with three straight 3-0 losses to visiting Interlachen on Aug. 20, visiting Columbia on Aug. 26 and host Ridgeview on Aug. 27.

Keystone played in a tournament at Clay on Aug. 31 and lost 2-1 (24-26, 26-24, 17-15) to the host Blue Devils.

Rivera recorded nine kills and three aces, while Marquart had 15 assists.

Jennings had four aces, while Massey had five digs.

Emma Stanley had two blocks.

The Indians went 1-1 in the tournament, picking up their first win by defeating Crescent City 2-0 (26-24, 25-20).

Masssey and Rivera each had a team-high eight digs, with Rivera adding 13 kills.

Marquart recorded 20 assists, while Stanley had two blocks.

Keystone hosts Baker County on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m., following a junior varsity match at 6 p.m. The Indians then travel to Lake Butler to play Union County on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. The JV teams will play at 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, Keystone travels to play Bradford, with the JV and varsity matches taking place at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
