Teyona Jenkins and Kristen Adams have been coaching cheerleaders together since they had family members in Pop Warner football.

Eight years ago, Jenkins’s sister and Adams’s daughter were youth cheerleaders, and the two women teamed up to coach the girls.  Since then, Jenkins and Adams have climbed the ladder with their family members, coaching middle school, junior varsity, and now varsity cheerleaders.

“Three years varsity, one year J.V., two years middle school,” Adams said of the pair’s most recent coaching track record.

Adams’s daughter and Jenkins’s sister graduated from high school last year, but the two coaches decided to stay together for each other and the team. Adams said she also has a son who is in the band.

The pair said they both cheered when they were in high school and find coaching creative and fun.

Adams said that after a 10-year layoff from competition, she and Jenkins brought back a competitive cheerleading team last year.  The squad made it to the state finals, placing seventh.
