Ran from traffic stop, backpack had drugs, gun

Jeremiah Lee Merriweather, 34, of Starke, was sentenced to 18 months’ drug offender probation after pleading to tampering with evidence during a criminal proceeding.

According to an arrest report, on March 10, the defendant was a passenger in a black Hyundai that made an illegal left turn at the corner of West Call Street (State Road 230) and Temple Avenue (U.S. Highway 301.

Deputies said Merriweather ran north, dumped his backpack into a trashcan, and then proceeded to the Circle K at the corner of the U.S. highway and Brownlee Road, where they arrested him.

Officers reported that they found a Glock 9mm handgun, 21 grams of marijuana, and a wallet with two debit cards containing the defendant’s name in the backpack.
