The people of Union County once again took the opportunity to demonstrate their generosity and caring for others by participating in the Lake Butler Woman’s Club luncheon on Dec.3, 2024, the benefits of which will go to support the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
The program, founded in 1947, works to supply toys for children who otherwise would not find anything under the tree on Christmas morning.
About 75 people came to the historic Woman’s Club to dine on chicken and rice, potato salad, and an array of desserts. All made a $10 donation to support the program, and some of the attendees also contributed 35 new, unwrapped toys to be given out to children in the county.
Brad Elixson, with Woodmen Life, presented the club with a check for $1,000 to help purchase toys. The Woman’s Club raised about $2,600 in donations. The funds will be used for Union County American Legion Post #153 and Woman’s Club members to buy toys. Women’s Club members will also be on hand when the toys are distributed to children in over 1,500 areas.
Sponsors for the luncheon were Woodmen Life, Palm RV Parks, Union County American Legion Post #153, the Union County Helping Hands and Hearts Society, and the Lake Butler Woman’s Club.
