Union Co. girls defeat Warriors for 2nd victory

Heaven Scott scored 17 points as the Union County High School girls basketball team picked up its second win of the season, defeating visiting West Nassau 55-32 on Dec. 17.

Gabrielle Moore had 12 points, while Brooke Hunt and Iamorieah Williams scored nine and eight, respectively.

The Tigers (2-9) also got five points from Brianna Taylor, two points from Faith Sirmones and one point each from Aundria Phipps and Ivy Wilson.

Williams had team highs in rebounds with seven and blocked shots with three.

Moore and Scott each had six rebounds. Scott also blocked two shots, as did Sirmones.

Union entered the game on a nine-game losing streak, with most of those losses coming by double digits. The Tigers’ closest loss occurred in their game before playing West Nassau, with host Northside Christian of Starke defeating Union 26-19 on Dec. 16.

Scott and Taylor scored eight and seven points, respectively, against Northside, while Sirmones and Williams each adding two points. Scott also had five steals, while Moore had four.

The Tigers return to action with a road game against Keystone Heights on Friday, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m. Union then travels to play Branford on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 6 p.m. and Cedar Key on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 6 p.m.
