Bradford boys hoops team falls to Oakleaf

Bradford High School almost got double-doubles from Jordan Cason and Breion Johnson, but the Class 3A Tornadoes had their seven-game winning streak snapped in a 72-54 loss to Class 6A Oakleaf on Jan. 18 in Orange Park.

Cason had 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots, while Johnson added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Maliki Cobarris led the Tornadoes in scoring with 21 points, while Jy’Quez Cason and K.J. Taylor each had four points.

Cobarris also led the team in assists with five and steals with four.

Jy’Quez Cason added nine rebounds.

The Tornadoes (11-3) entered the game off a 65-64 road win over District 3-3A opponent Palatka on Jan. 14.

Bradford rallied from a 10-point deficit with 2:50 to play. With 10 seconds to play, the Tornadoes inbounded the ball at midcourt, with Cobarris driving to the basket and scoring the winning basket with 2 seconds left.

Cobarris finished with 20 points and eight assists, while Jy’Quez Cason had 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Steven Carter and Jordan Cason each had nine points, with Cason adding five rebounds.

Johnson had six points and six rebounds.

The Tornadoes will travel to play Ridgeview on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. Bradford travels to play Trenton on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 5:30 p.m. and then travels to play district opponent Newberry on Monday, Jan. 27, at 7:30 p.m.
