Bradford High School’s Timya Ray qualified for the Class 1A state finals with her performance in the traditional event at the Region 2 girls weightlifting meet, which was held Feb. 1 in Chiefland.
Ray placed sixth in the unlimited class with a clean and jerk of 160 pounds and a bench press of 155, giving her an overall total of 315. It was a 15-pound improvement from what Ray did at the previous week’s District 6 meet.
The total was good enough to earn Ray an at-large bid to state, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, at R.P. Funding Center-Jenkins Arena in Lakeland. She’ll lift in the 3 p.m. session.
State tickets, which are $11 in advance and $14 the day of the event, can be purchased online at rpfundingcenter.com.
Parking at the event is $12.
Please note that R.P. Funding Center is a cashless facility.
Though not qualifying for state, Destiny Randolph and Blakeleigh Smith made significant jumps in their totals from the District 6 meet. Smith had a 15-pound improvement with a 225 total (110, 115) in the 139 class, while Randolph had a 20-pound improvement with a 250 total (120, 130) in the 199 class.
Bradford also had the following compete at the Region 2 meet: Hailey Redding, who had a 210 total (105, 105) in the 129 class, Brandy Hall, who had a 210 total (110, 100) in the 129 class, Mallory Frazier, who had a 190 total (100, 90) in the 139 class, and Kellsie Cochran, who had a 230 total (110, 120) in the 183 class.
Redding improved upon her district total by 5 pounds.
