Growth was down in Union County in 2024, with only 23 residential single-family homes permitted for the year. As has been normal for the county, mobile homes permitted out-numbered site-built homes, with a total of 36 for the year, the majority of which were new doublewides.
The increase in the tax rolls is also down. New homes and improvements permitted in 2024 added only $46,000 to county tax assessments, having a taxable value of only $2,873,991. In 2023, new construction increased the tax rolls by $184,734 for properties with a total taxable value of $11,393,101. This is less than 1% of last year’s increase in total taxable value in the county, which was $354,093,325 (although this figure did include the increase from the new solar farm).
