Sherree Alvarez, Bradford School District’s director of grants and resources, carried out her favorite task last week in recognizing students who achieved perfect scores on end-of-year exams for the 2023-24 school year.
Each spring, depending on their grade level, students take their final progress monitoring FAST exam in English language arts and math as well as statewide assessments in science and other end-of-course exams.
The seven Bradford students who achieved a perfect score also received special recognition from the Florida Department of Education.
“This is an extraordinary achievement, and we’re so proud of these young scholars,” Alvarez said.
She read from a letter from Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr.: “I am writing to congratulate you on your exemplary performance in the spring assessments. You achieved a perfect score. I’m very proud of your accomplishment, and I commend you on your hard work to achieve this level of success. I would like to encourage you to strive for academic excellence and inspire those around you to do the same. Your exceptional achievement is an example to others of the success that can be attained through working hard and caring about your education.”
The students recognized were Jacob Brown, Ka’darius Holley, Alexander Kaye, Aashna Patel, Grant Lawson, Julia Zurfluh and Amy Prescott.
Jacob had a perfect score on the third grade FAST mathematics assessment.
Cadarius had perfect scores on eighth grade science and English language arts.
Alexander had a perfect score on the sixth grade FAST mathematics assessment. (He received two perfect score certificates last year.)
Aashna had a perfect score on the eighth grade mathematics assessment.
Grant had a perfect score on the civics end-of-course exam.
Julia had a perfect score on the ninth grade English language assessment.
Amy had a perfect score on the eighth grade science assessment during the 2022 school year, but her award was lost in the shuffle. She was recognized along with the students from 2023-24.
In addition to the students, Alvarez recognized the parents and family members who are supporting their education.
“We know the commitment to education starts with them,” she said.
