Kyle Perkins won the traditional and Olympic championships in the 199-pound class.

Kyle Perkins and Trase Wooden each won both the traditional and Olympic championships in their respective weight classes, helping Keystone Heights High School win the traditional team title and place second in Olympic at the school’s annual boys weightlifting invitational, which was held Feb. 28.

The invitational consisted of 12 teams beside Keystone, including two Class 3A schools in Flagler Palm Coast and Oakleaf. Class 2A schools Gainesville, Palatka and Yulee were also part of the field, while Class 1A was represented by Keystone, Branford, Father Lopez, Hawthorne, Oak Hall, West Nassau and Williston.

Keystone had 10 lifters in all score points in the traditional event, finishing with a team score of 41. Flagler Palm Coast was second with 32 points, followed by Williston (26), Oakleaf (25), Palatka (22), Middleburg (21), Yulee (18), West Nassau (15), Hawthorne (7) and Gainesville (6).

Perkins won the 199-pound class with a 575-pound total. He had a 280 clean and jerk and a 295 bench press.

Wooden took first by 10 pounds in the 219 class with a 525 total (275 clean and jerk, 250 bench press).

Elijah Mize and Colton Hollingsworth were runners-up in the 119 and 129 classes, respectively. Mize had a 410 total (185, 225), while Hollingsworth had a 415 total (200, 215).

Three lifters placed third: Damien Dunlap with a 475 total (230, 245) in the 154 class, Zane Leger with a 545 total (265, 280) in the 199 class and Jackson Herman with a 610 total (305, 305) in the unlimited class.

Dylan Currington was fourth in the 119 class with a 320 total (155, 165), while points were also earned by two sixth-place lifters: Layton Wright with a 485 total (245, 240) in the 169 class and Brayden Wester with a 555 total (280, 275) in the unlimited class.

Jagger Lancaster was one spot shy of adding to the team’s point total, finishing seventh in the 154 class with a 445 total (195, 250).

The Indians also had the following traditional results: Aiden Nobles with a 310 total (150, 160) in the 129 class, Connor Mooneyham with a 295 total (145, 150) in the 139 class, Brodyn Adams with a 350 total (165, 185) in the 169 class, Talon Lybarger with a 435 total (195, 240) in the 183 class, Hunter Crumpton with a 380 total (195, 185) in the 183 class, Luke Bacorn with a 455 total (230, 225) in the 219 class, Pete Bostic with a 500 total (235, 265) in the 238 class and Logan Madden-Moore with a 420 total (215, 205) in the 238 class.

Keystone is undefeated in traditional lifting this year. Prior to the invitational, the Indians defeated a total of nine schools in four meets.

Trase Wooden won the traditional and Olympic championships in the 219-pound class.

Olympic results

Keystone had 11 lifters earn points in the Olympic event, helping the Indians finish as runners-up with 39 points. Flagler Palm coast was first with 46 points.

Placing behind Keystone were Williston (29), Middleburg (23), Oakleaf (20), West Nassau (18), Yulee (13), Gainesville (10), Palatka (8) and Father Lopez (7).

Perkins and Wooden were the only first-place finishers. Perkins had a 485 total (205 snatch, 280 clean and jerk), while Wooden had a 460 total (185, 275).

Mize and Herman were runners-up, with Mize finishing with a 310 total (125, 185) and Herman compiling a 530 total (225, 305).

Two lifters placed third: Hollingsworth with a 345 total (145, 200) and Leger with a 450 total (185, 265).

Currington and Wright earned fifth-place finishes. Currington had a 260 total (105, 155), while Wright had a 410 total (165, 245).

Placing sixth were Bacorn with a 395 total (165, 230), Bostic with a 405 total (170, 235) and Wester with a 440 total (160, 280).

Clark Brynes just missed scoring with a seventh-place total of 390 (165, 225) in the 154 class.

Other Olympic results were: Nobles with a 255 total (105, 150), Mooneyham with a 255 total (110, 145), Lancaster with a 330 total (135, 195), Adams with a 300 total (135, 165), Crumpton with a 325 total (130, 195), Lybarger with a 320 total (125, 195) and Madden-Moore with a 375 total (160, 215).

Keystone entered the invitational with an 8-1 record in Olympic competition, with the one loss being to Flagler Palm coast by one point.
