BHS softball team loses 11-3 despite home run from Hinds

Addyson Hinds hit a two-run home run, but the Bradford High School softball team scored only one other run in an 11-3 loss to host Tocoi Creek on March 7.

The Tornadoes (2-4) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Keegan Yowell reached on an error before Hinds, who went 2 for 3, drove a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left.

Bradford had just three hits after the home run.

It was the second loss of the week for the Tornadoes, who fell 8-1 to visiting Newberry on March 4.

Kingslee Phillips went 2 for 3, but the rest of the team combined for three hits.

Bailey Smith pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs.

The Tornadoes committed seven errors.

Bradford bounced back with an 18-hit performance in a 14-9 win at P.K. Yonge on March 6.

It was 3-2 in favor of the Tornadoes when they scored five runs in the fourth. Summer Sutton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Tayrn Flowers hit a two-run single. Phillips and Kolee Lemire each had an RBI single as Bradford took an 8-2 lead.

Hinds and Kallie Yowell each hit an RBI double as part of a four-run sixth inning that put Bradford up 13-4.

Flowers finished 4 for 5 with a double and three RBI. Hinds, Phillips and Kallie Yowell each had two RBI, with Hinds batting 3 for 4 with two doubles and Phillips going 2 for 4.

Amber Wynn went 3 for 5 with an RBI, while Lemire was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Sutton had one RBI as well, while Keegan Yowell batted 2 for 6.

Smith started in the circle, giving up four runs (three earned) and six hits.

Lemire pitched the final two innings, allowing five runs (three earned) and two hits, while striking out four.

Bradford hosts Hawthorne on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. and will host Eastside on Thursday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. The Tornadoes then host Union County on Friday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m.
