Union County boys win 1st match in tennis

Union County High School earned its first win in boys tennis, with the Tigers defeating visiting Seven Rivers Christian 4-3 on Feb. 28.

The Tigers got victories at the number-two and number-three singles spots, with Braden Adams winning 8-2 and Preston Flick winning 8-4.

Adams and Tucker Williams teamed up for an 8-0 win at number-one doubles, while the number-two team of Reese Harrison and Barry Andersen-Davis won 9-7.

Williams and Patrick Maxwell suffered close losses on singles play by scores of 8-5 and 8-6. Andersen-Davis dropped an 8-3 match.

Union’s girls team has dropped two matches in a row, starting with a 4-3 loss to Seven Rivers Christian on Feb. 28.

Gracie Manning and Madison Starling won singles matches by scores of 8-2 and 8-4, respectively. The two also teamed up for an 8-1 win in doubles.

On March 4, the Tigers hosted Newberry, losing 4-3. Manning and Rachael Archer had singles wins by scores of 8-0 and 8-2, respectively, while the doubles team of Archer and Bristol Lang won 8-6.

Union has three wins on the season. The Tigers defeated Madison County 6-1 on Feb. 6, West Nassau 7-0 on Feb. 11 and Newberry 4-3 on Feb. 25.

The Tigers came out on top in four singles matches against Madison County, with Manning winning 8-3, Starling winning 8-4, Regan Broome winning 8-3 and Abigail Fishburn winning 8-6.

In doubles, Starling-Manning won 8-1, while Archer-Kaylie Hendricks won 8-3.

Against West Nassau, Union’s singles wins were 8-3 by Manning, 8-6 by Starling, 8-3 by Broome, 8-3 by Archer and 8-1 by Fishburn.

Starling-Manning won 8-6, while Archer-Hendricks won 8-0.

The Feb. 25 win over Newberry had Manning come out on top in singles play by a score of 8-4, while Broome and Lang had wins of 8-3 and 8-0, respectively.

Broome-Hendricks earned an 8-4 doubles win.
