Union County High School won three events, with two coming from Amia Bethea on the girls side at a March 20 track and field meet hosted by The Villages.
Bethea won the 100m with a time of 12.53 and the 200m with a time of 25.60.
The girls team also got points from Holly Halfacre and Melinda Mabrey. Halfacre took third in the triple jump with a distance of 31-5.75, while Mabrey was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 26-1.75.
In the boys events, Union’s Jesse Chakin, Gavin Jenkins, Drew Simmons and Jabari Young teamed up to run a winning time of 44.56 in the 4x100m relay.
Union also got points from Jenkins, who had a fifth-place time of 11.62 in the 100m, and Edward Durant, who had an eighth-place distance of 109-3 in the discus.
Other boys results were: 100m — Young 12.05, Simmons 12.59; 200m — Chakin 24.47, Natwan Richardson 26.99, Landon Cason 28.01; 400m — Gaultney Cole 1:11; 800m — Joseph Harris 2:32, Clayton Cason 2:43; 1600m — Harris 5:16; long jump — Landon Cason 16-7; shot put — C.J. Ivey 34-3, Anthony Holmes 34-0, Durant 31-10; and discus — Ivey 102-6, Matthew Rogers 93-1.
The Tigers had the following girls results as well: 100m — Hayden Robinson 14.09, Ivy Wilson 14.54; 200m — Halfacre 29.31, Sommer McKenzie 36.45; 800m — Rachel Harris 3:06; 1600m — Harris 7:13; long jump — Gloryanth Reyes 10-10.5, Elauna Roberts 8-10.25; shot put — Jamie Webb 21-9, Allayah Blocker 18-1.75; and discus — Mari Williams 38-10, Blocker 31-6.
Prior to the meet at The Villages, the Tigers competed in a mini meet hosted by Suwanee, with Bethea breaking her own school record in the 100m with a first-place time of 12.11.
Bethea also ran the 400m for the first time in a high-school meet, placing third with a time of 1:05.
Halfacre placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 14-0.25, while Mabrey was sixth in the shot put with a distance of 26-9.
Union also had the following girls results: 100m — Halfacre 14.04, Brianna Taylor 14.17, Faith Sirmones 14.36, Wilson 14.36, Robinson 14.70, Roberts 15.94, Reyes 16.85; long jump — Sirmones 11-5; and shot put — Williams 23-2, Webb 20-9.5, Blocker 19-3.5.
The boys team got points from Chakin and Ivey. Chakin was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 18-2.25, while Ivey was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 37-8.
Union’s other boys results were: 100m — Chakin 11.69, Young 12.10, Simmons 12.15, Jenkins 12.37, Richardson 12.56, Landon Cason 13.33; 400m — Damon Ferrer 1:11; 800m — Clayton Cason 2:50; 1600m — Ashton Bunkley 6:02, Clayton Cason 6:16, Cole 6:37; long jump — Landon Cason 14-9.25; and shot put — Holmes 33-7, Durant 31-7, Rogers 30-0.
