KHHS boys weightlifting team wins both titles at Clay County meet

Jackson Herman won the unlimited class in the Olympic event at the Clay County Championships. He was one of three Olympic champions for Keystone, which also had four traditional champions.

Keystone Heights High School won the team championships in both Olympic and traditional at the Clay County Boys Weightlifting Championships, which were hosted by KHHS on March 14.

The Indians had seven individuals place first or second, earning 41 of the team’s Olympic score of 59. That put Keystone 17 points ahead of Oakleaf. Fleming Island was third with 40 points, followed by Middleburg (39), Clay (24) and Ridgeview (15).

Winning their weight classes for Keystone were Colton Hollingsworth, with a 350 total (145 snatch, 205 clean and jerk) in the 129 class, Layton Wright, with a 420 total (175, 245) in the 169 class, and Jackson Herman, with a 540 total (235, 305) in the unlimited class.

The Indians had four class runners-up in Elijah Mize, who had a 310 total (135, 175) in the 119 class, Kyle Perkins, who had a 485 total (200, 285) in the 199 class, Trase Wooden, who had a 480 total (200, 280) in the 219 class, and Brayden Wester, who had a 440 total (170, 270) in the 238 class.

Dylan Currington and Pete Bostic earned third-place finishes: Currington with a 290 total (115, 175) in the 119 class, and Bostic with a 410 total (185, 225) in the 238 class.

Clark Byrnes and Damien Dunlap were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 154 class. Byrnes had a 395 total (175, 220), while Dunlap had a 390 total (150, 240).

Zane Leger had a fourth-place total of 465 (195, 270) in the 199 class.

Keystone had two add to the team score with sixth-place finishes: Aiden Nobles, with a 295 total (125, 170) in the 129 class, and Brodyn Adams, with a 340 total (145, 195) in the 169 class.

Not earning points, but placing in the top 10, were: Connor Mooneyham, with a seventh-place total of 255 (110, 145) in the 139 class, Caleb Alvers, with an eighth-place total of 250 (95, 155) in the 139 class, Talon Lybarger, with an eighth-place total of 365 (155, 210) in the 183 class, Hunter Crumpton, with a 10th-place total of 305 (130, 175) in the 183 class, Luke Bacorn, with a seventh-place total of 395 (165, 230) in the 219 class, and Andrew Snider, with a 10th-place total of 350 (135, 215) in the unlimited class.

 

Traditional results

Seven placed first or second to help the Indians compile 62 points in the traditional event, putting Keystone 11 points ahead of Oakleaf. Middleburg was third with 40 points, followed by Clay (34), Fleming Island (17), Ridgeview (8) and Orange Park (8).

Four individuals won their classes: Mize, with a 410 total (175 clean and jerk, 235 bench press), Hollingsworth, with a 430 total (205, 225), Perkins, with a 585 total (285, 300), and Wooden, with a 540 total (280, 260).

Placing second were Dunlap, with a 465 total (240, 225), Leger, with a 560 total (270, 290), and Wester, with a 555 total (270, 285).

Four finished third in their classes: Currington, with a 345 total (175, 170), Wright, with a 480 total (245, 235), Bostic, with a 500 total (225, 275), and Herman, with a 600 total (305, 295).

Jagger Lancaster also added to the team score with a fourth-place total of 455 (200, 255) in the 154 class.

Not scoring points, but placing in the top 10, were: Nobles, with a seventh-place total of 335 (170, 165), Alvers, with a seventh-place total of 300 (155, 145), Mooneyham, with an eighth-place total of 290 (145, 145), Adams, with a ninth-place total of 400 (195, 205), Lybarger, with an eighth-place total of 445 (210, 235), Bacorn, with a seventh-place total of 455 (230, 225), and Snider, with a ninth-place total of 430 (215, 215).
