KHHS boys are 8-1 in tennis, girls are 6-4

Keystone Heights High School won its seventh straight match in boys tennis, defeating host Gainesville 4-3 on March 27.

The Indians (8-1) suffered losses in the top three singles slots, though Evan Booth’s number-three match was close with a score of 9-8. Will Begue earned an 8-4 win at the number-four spot, while Beckett Capper won 8-1 in the fifth slot.

Keystone swept the doubles matches, with the Dalton Moore-Ethan Teague and Booth-Begue teams each winning by a 6-4 score.

The Indians entered the match off a 5-2 win at Middleburg on March 25.

Moore and Teague won by scores of 8-1 and 8-6, respectively, at the top two singles spots. Booth won 8-2, while Begue won 8-5.

The doubles team of Moore and Booth won 8-3.

Keystone also played a girls match at Middleburg that same day, with the Indians winning 6-1 and improving their record to 6-4.

The Indians swept singles play. Whitnee Buchanan won 8-0, Addison Smith won 8-3, Kaiya Thompson won 8-1, Avrylle Wilson won 8-4 and Rachel Blank won 8-1.

Evie Hallberg and Alli Tisdale teamed up for an 8-3 win at number-one doubles. The team of Kherrington and Aryiah Wilson played a close match before losing 9-7.

The boys team hosts Ridgeview on Tuesday, April 1, at 3 p.m., while the girls team plays at Ridgeview that same day at 3:30 p.m.

On Thursday, April 3, the girls team will host Newberry at 4 p.m. and then travel to play Eastside at Gainesville’s T.B. McPherson Center on Monday, April 7, at 4 p.m.

The boys team plays Eastside on Tuesday, April 8, at 3:30 p.m. at Gainesville’s Tom Petty Park.
