Special to the Telegraph

The scent of ripe strawberries and sizzling festival treats filled the air at the 27th annual Starke Strawberry Festival this past weekend as visitors gathered to celebrate tradition, community, and the sweetest fruit of the season.

Hosted by the North Florida Regional Chamber of Commerce, the festival took place on March 29th and 30th at the Bradford County Fairgrounds, welcoming families, friends, and vendors from across the region for a berry delightful time.

A Berry Sweet Saturday

With over 100 food and craft vendors lining the fairgrounds, there was no shortage of sights, sounds, and flavors to enjoy. The air was thick with the enticing aroma of funnel cakes, roasted nuts, and sizzling turkey legs, each booth offering a unique slice of small-town charm.

Among the vendors, mother-daughter duo Lai’Nyia Matthews and Nataki Campbell of Bites of Sweetz stood ready to serve up their strawberry-flavored desserts after enjoying a mouthwatering lunch from One Way Jamaican Cuisine. Just a few booths down, Lorenzo Williams and his partner enticed festival-goers with their flavorful Mike’s Seasonings and Sheffield Pecans. Meanwhile, Randy Adams, owner of The Wayward Potter, showcased his intricate handmade pottery, each piece telling its own story of craftsmanship and care.

Classic car enthusiasts gathered around a collection of vintage automobiles, their gleaming exteriors reflecting the golden afternoon sun. Over at Underhills Forge, owner Jacob Underhill mesmerized onlookers with his blacksmithing and bladesmithing demonstrations, hammering red-hot metal into stunning works of art. Even the Army recruiters and Bradford High School JROTC added an exciting touch with their helicopter simulator, giving festival-goers a taste of aviation adventure.

A Rain-Soaked Sunday Farewell

As sweet as Saturday had been, Sunday brought an unexpected twist. The skies darkened, and the once vibrant fairgrounds were soon washed in a curtain of rain, forcing the festival to close early. While the weather may have cut the festivities short, it did nothing to dampen the spirits of those who had already filled their weekend with laughter, delicious treats, and heartwarming reunions.

While the rain may have washed away Sunday’s plans, it couldn’t erase the magic of a festival built on decades of community and tradition.

A Taste of Home

The Starke Strawberry Festival isn’t just about strawberries—it’s about the people who come together to celebrate them.

Even as the rain brought an early end to this year’s event, there was an unshakable feeling of gratitude in the air—a love for Starke, for its people, and for the traditions that make this town feel like home.
