A three-car crash sent one person to a hospital in critical condition and a second with serious injuries on State Road 21 near the Putnam-Clay-County line Friday afternoon.
According to an eyewitness who declined to release his name, at around 5:30 p.m., a southbound silver pickup was stationary on the state road, waiting to turn left, with a Ford SUV positioned behind it.
A Kia SUV then rear-ended the Ford, pushing it into the trailer and causing it to flip.
Melrose Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kevin Mobley said two people were injured, one in critical condition and one seriously.
In addition to the Melrose volunteers, county firefighters from Clay and Putnam responded to the emergency and transported the patients to area hospitals.
