UCHS places 2nd in 5 events at KHHS Relays

Union County High School got three runner-up finishes from its boys track and field team and two from its girls team at the April 4 Keystone Heights High School Relays.

The boys team placed fourth out of seven teams. Edward Durant was second in the shot put with a distance of 34 feet, 3 inches, while the Tigers had two second-place finishes with relay teams. The 4x100m team had a time of 44.41, while the throwers 4x100m team had a time of one minute.

Union also earned points from two other relay teams, with a third-place time of 4:04 in the 1600m sprint medley relay and a fifth-place time of 13:22 in the 400m distance medley relay.

Anthony Holmes and C.J. Ivey were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the shot put with distances of 34-1.25 and 33-8.75.

Gavin Jenkins was sixth in the 100m with a time of 11.48, while Jabari Young placed eighth in the event with a time of 11.60.

Matthew Rogers also competed for the boys team in the shot put, finishing with a distance of 28-0.25.

Union, which placed sixth out of seven teams in the girls competition, got a second-place distance of 31-6.75 from Holly Halfacre in the triple jump and a second-place distance of 25-2.5 from Melinda Mabrey in the shot put.

Faith Sirmones was third in the long jump with a distance of 15-0, while the Tigers were also third in the 4x100m relay with a time of 54.01.

Union had three runners in the 100m: Brianna Taylor (13.61), Sirmones (14.38) and Alexia Cyr (16.34).

Jamie Webb and Cyr had distances of 19-4.75 and 17-9, respectively, in the shot put.
