The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said staff at Melrose Elementary School received a threatening phone call around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29. In response to the threat, the school initiated a lockdown, and the school district locked down other West Putnam schools, including those in Interlocken.

“At the same time,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release, “similar phone calls were made to communities across the state and nationwide. The calls are all similar in nature. At the time Melrose received the threat, St. Johns County received the same call to three of their schools. The phone number is to a cell phone in the Miami-Dade area.”

The law enforcement agency said it, along with school administrators, completed two sweeps of the campus.
