Bradford flag football and track and field seasons end at regional level

BY CLIFF SMELLEY

Bradford High School’s flag football team made history in its last two games, but couldn’t do so in another, losing 14-0 to host and top seed Florida High in the Region 1-1A championship game on May 1 in Tallahassee.

Florida High’s Danielle White rushed for one score and had two interceptions on defense to help put the Seminoles (15-3) in the state semifinals, where they’ll play Edison, the top seed from Region 4.

The Tornadoes (14-3) had never won a region-level playoff game prior to this season. As the third seed in Region 1, they defeated sixth seed Keystone Heights 37-9 in a quarterfinal game and then defeated undefeated, second seed University Christian 18-7 in the semifinals.

Bradford was attempting to not only win its first regional title, but also to avenge a 13-7 regular-season loss to Florida High.

Still, it has been quite a run the Tornadoes have had the last three years, winning three straight district championships and compiling a 38-6 record.
