Union County Coordinator Jimmy Williams told county commissioners during their May 19 meeting that the county only received one bid to resurface Southwest 92nd Street and that the bid exceeded a Florida Department of Transportation grant by around $700,000.
The two-lane begins at State Road 121 near Ward Timber and the Union County Riding Club. It runs north and east for approximately one mile to Southwest 146th Lane.
“We got one bid from Preferred Materials, and it was $2,213,000, I think, and some change,” the coordinator told commissioners. “We only had $1.5 (million) budgeted for that from DOT.”
Williams explained that the project’s costs were estimated years ago and that since the estimate was made, inflation had driven up construction costs.
He added that he is working with state officials to amend the budget for the project.
