Assistant Chief Chad Ricks of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office addressed the pressing issues of speeding and drug-related activities in the Lake Region during the June 9 Keystone Heights City Council meeting.

During the May city council meeting, city officials asked deputies to take more decisive action against speeders.

Ricks explained his agency’s response to the May request during the June 9 meeting.

“We had a few groups of people that were committing some low-level crimes, and causing some problems here at Keystone Heights,” he said,  “and we put together a special detail for three nights.”

Ricks added that during the three-night mission, deputies made 225 traffic stops, issued 150 warnings, wrote around 80 citations, and made approximately 15 or 16 arrests.

Mayor Nina Rodenroth thanked the sheriff’s office for making Keystone Heights safer.
